Brixton got us sick with a cold/flu virus just in time for Mother's Day. We're drinking lots of tea and taking it easy today.

I'm currently reading a book called Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by novelist Barbara Kingsolver
It's about a family of five from Tuscon, AZ that leave behind their old life and move to rural Virginia.
They vow to themselves and each other that for an entire year they will eat locally.
While she narrates most of the book, the rest of the family adds footnotes and small essays of the modern food industry, nutrition, and science.
Kingsolver describes the life of animals, vegetables, and how we've become a culture of the now, disregarding our history of local and seasonal foods. Her farming methods and shopping patterns serve as a good archetype for aspiring locavores.
